Broche wagara - Kikkō
Broche wagara - Kikkō
A beautiful brooch with a traditional Japanese pattern and its unique meaning.
Kikkō (亀甲) is a wagara pattern based on a hexagonal shape resembling the shell of a turtle. In Japan, the turtle symbolises long life and protection, making the Kikkō pattern associated with durability, strength and happiness. This geometric pattern is often repeated and symmetrically applied to kimonos, coats of arms and other traditional objects. The design can also vary by adding overlapping hexagons for added complexity and symbolism.
