Magnet Big Ichimatsu
Magnet Big Ichimatsu
A fun magnet featuring a traditional Japanese pattern and its unique meaning.
Ichimatsu (市松) is a traditional wagara pattern consisting of a checkered or chessboard motif of alternating squares. This simple yet elegant design symbolises harmony, balance and continuity. The pattern was made famous in the Edo period by the kabuki actor Sanogawa Ichimatsu, after whom it is named. Ichimatsu is widely used in clothing, art and modern designs, such as the branding of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where it expresses a sense of connection and equality.
